I think we're going to get some good ideas on some great films to watch from this one.
Like the titles says, what are movies that are genuinely creepy, or have just totally scared you?
Jump scares are allowed, but more so leaning stuff that actually sticks with you after viewing, or just has a terribly creepy vibe or atmosphere.
Scary, at one point: The Blair Witch Project. This movie, if you know anything about it, is basically the founder of the popularity in the found footage genre, which to this day, while very played out, I still very much enjoy viewing.
Now, if you really want to go back to the roots, Cannibal Holocaust was the founder, The Blair Witch perfected it, and Paranormal Activity expanded it.
I watched this movie was back in the day now, when I thought it was still real. I didn't really know much about it, and internet wasn't exactly always on and at the ready (dial up at the time ) so I picked it up for a $1, and it was a VHS bundle pack. One was the movie, the other was a documentary. Amazing deal, especially back then.
I took it home, watched the documentary first, I mean at that point I was like well... Seems legit, plus I was about 12 at the time, and moved onto watching the actual flick. f*cking, TERRIFYING, thinking this shit was real.
I was so glued to my seat, and the screen the entire time, that it's hard to find something that engages me like that movie did back in the day. But I'll tell you one thing, this movie numbed me to all that came after. I used to get freaked out by so many movies before then, anything with ghosts, or the supernatural. But this movie, numbed me. Kinda helped me with my fear of the dark at that time too. Still one of my favorite movies.
Haha, it really didn't help at that time, we were remodeling the upstairs, and were surrounded by woods at the time, so that night, had to sleep with the entire wall open to darkness, with only a thin piece of plastic between where I slept, and pure, dark woods. >_<
To this day however, while still holding a very good place in my heart, it's not scary. Not with all the mystery gone, IT IS however, creepy, particularly at the end. Heather's screams... My God, that was some of the best acting in a horror movie during the ending. Such a legitimate, and still creepy scream.
Alright, I don't want you guys to read walls of texts for this first post, so I'll post more of my favorites after the thread gets going!
I love horror films, tell me what you guys find terrifying, and creepy!
