Gears of War was one of the most defining games in the lifespan of the Xbox 360. I remember when it was first announced and thinking: "Man I've never seen a game like that."
Then I got it and was blown away at how the game truly is. It was dark and gritty, at some points scary, and intense as all hell. I loved all the characters and think the guns really stand out to one another. I remember the Kryll being absolutely terrifying and I would NOT stray away from the light. Then the Corpser showed up later on and I finally got to fight one of the "Giant monsters" like the game lead on that you would. It was a really fulfilling game. My experience was for sure a 4 out of 5 stars in my book.
Then Gears 2 came along and I was all: HOLY SHIT CHAINSAW DUELS!!1 The game was definitely fun, as it strayed away from the dark survivor horror aspect to a more open war kinda feel. I wouldn't say I was impressed by the story for the second game though. Like how you go underground at least 3 times for almost the same reason. But I did enjoy the new enemies and weapons the spruced it up a bit. Oh and chainsaw duels are the shit. And don't forget the Horde mode they added that was awesome except missing a few components that would really make it EPIC. 3 out of 5 stars.r
Finally Gears 3 shows up and my first impression was: "This should be alright, hopefully better than the 2nd one. And god damn was I surprised. I played the Gears 3 campaign alone, and it was incredible. All the characters are more involved, and the new Lambent enemies were definitely a force to be reckoned with, even to match that of the Locust. The game gives you the 'Apocalypse' feel that the first game did, yet still gave the sense that humans are still fighting back. Another thing is Gears 3 really made me attached to the characters. Like Coles home town and Baird actually liking someone for once... Marcus and Anya finally get a love biscuit with one another like we've been waiting for, and Dom... Oh Dom...
The multiplayer was pretty fun, kind of like the norm but a few tweaks here and there. Then Horde mode got some MAJOR upgrades. And I got sucked into that game mode alone for months on end. Fortifications really made the game more enjoyable. And the boss waves were like a WAKE UP when you were getting bored of fighting Tickers and needed to get ready for it to hit the fan.
My Gears 3 experience was a for sure 5 out of 5 stars. And one of my favorite games for the 360 to date. It was the perfect ending to such and epic struggle.
As for Judgment I haven't played it yet. But ive seen some and it looks decent to say the least, I still don't know if its as good as the first trilogy. Although id like to give it a go first.
So that's how my Gears of War play through was to me. I tried not to give out any spoilers. But if you haven't played them yet, I very much encourage that you do.
