Well, a bit of a story behind this one. Back at the end of '06, I was pretty much set on just Nintendo, and Sony. I had some prior interest in the original Xbox, but I just wasn't convinced on the console. It didn't help I got three in a row one week, all of which crapped out in about 4 hours each. With the exception of the first one, who's disc tray didn't even open. -_-
Moving on, November 2006 was so exciting for me, Nintendo was launching the Wii, and I couldn't wait. Wii sports looked so fun, and I wanted the exclusives! Namely Red Steel, and Twilight Princess. TP was on Gamecube, but I dunno, I wanted motion controls. It looked and sounded awesome.
I didn't really do preordering, or know a lot of how getting a console at launch was like, especially the Wii, which went on to be one of the top selling consoles ever created. So, stock was... Non existent for the next few months. I was really sad. It was going to be my Christmas gift, I was ready to get the latest Nintendo console, and play obscene amounts of games on it, like I had done with all my prior consoles and games.
In the next year, I was so happy it was out of stock. I moved on, looking into getting an Xbox 360, and I'm glad I did, aside from the fact of being on my 4th or 5th 360 now (lol) it just had a better library IMO. 360 was the PS2 of this generation. Towards the end of the cycle, it doesn't quite have the bang it did, but it's still a great console, and a far superior sequel to the original Xbox. Library, performance, and feature wise. Where as the Wii largely went on to be supported mostly by Nintendo themselves, as they made the best games by far, and multiplatform games always have, and always will be better to get on the 360, or PS3 instead.
Regardless, years later, the Wii has HUGELY dropped in price, and my want is sorta kicking up again. I miss those old Nintendo franchises. It's the stuff I grew up with. The stuff of nostalgia. I'm not sure if that's just what it is though. Nostalgia is often better as a thought, than an executed reality.
So I dunno, I WILL pick one up, just not right now. I want to play Skyward Sword, and Twilight Princess. There's also a handful of horror games I want to play as well.
I'll do what a lot of people did with the Gamecube. Wait until it's $30, then pick one up, and the titles I've missed over the years, and hack it and turn it into the ultimate nintendo machine with emulators. Hell, I might pick up a 2nd one for that price and turn it into a cheap FTP server.
So, thoughts on the Wii guys? Anyone own one, anyone like me and want one for the exclusive games, or another reason? Do you secretly love the Wii? Lets discuss it!
